Peter Kjeldsen

Songwriter / Composer / Producer

Peter Kjeldsen is a Danish songwriter, composer and producer whose work combines orchestral pop, electronic music, satire, philosophy and experimental composition.

His involvement with music began early in life with training in singing and instrumental performance. His instrumental background spans cornet, trumpet, flugelhorn, bugle and trombone, as well as piccolo and marching percussion, providing an early practical grounding in ensemble performance, brass voicing, rhythm, phrasing and musical dynamics.

Music did not become his primary profession, and his subsequent career took him into other fields. He returned to music later in life, undertaking further training in songwriting and lyric writing and combining this with contemporary composition and digital production.

This combination of early practical musicianship and later songwriting training underpins his present work. Traditional ideas of ensemble dynamics, instrumentation and musical phrasing are combined with contemporary production techniques and an emphasis on narrative and conceptual songwriting.

Working across an unusually broad range of subjects, his catalogue moves between intimate songwriting and large-scale orchestral and choral works, frequently drawing on philosophy, religion, history, geopolitics and the absurdities of human behaviour.

His compositions are characterised by narrative songwriting, theatrical arrangements and the deliberate collision of ideas and musical traditions. Multilingual writing and choral elements feature prominently in a number of works, often alongside performances by Sandra Lovejoy and The Ananta Choir.

Kjeldsen’s background in strategic analysis, technology and systems thinking also informs an unconventional approach to composition. Songs are frequently constructed as arguments, narratives or conceptual experiments rather than around the conventions of a single musical genre. Lyrics may operate simultaneously as story, satire and commentary, with recurring use of linguistic references, cultural allusions and deliberately concealed secondary meanings.

This approach extends into production, where individual voices, choirs, orchestral elements and electronic instrumentation are frequently treated as distinct narrative components rather than simply as accompaniment. Contrasts in scale, dynamics and musical character are used to reinforce the underlying structure and meaning of a composition.

As principal songwriter, composer and producer at CRG Records, Kjeldsen develops the underlying concepts, lyrics and musical direction of its productions, bringing together vocal performance, instrumentation, orchestral and choral arrangement, and digital production into the finished work.
